JUAN ZAPATA

“God helps that who rises early”

I am Juan Zapata Muñoz, I am 60 years old and I live with my two daughters, one is called Fabiola and the other is Miria, my wife Rosa. When I was a boy I was in the mountains with my father, I took care of some beasts and I saw the plants neglected and I felt sorry for them, I had a little machete and with that I cleared the plants. I cut the leg of the vines, while the plant was drying, I began to clear and that is where I began to migrate to the plants. I started to grow coffee in 74, I did not like other work; masonry, sugar cane, I liked coffee more, besides, it helps the family more, it is a nice practice and I like it. Thank God that some time ago my father taught me how to plant coffee and I started to work in that because I did not have any studies, so I dedicated myself to the fields and until now I continue with coffee. For me coffee represents a value for my future, the same is for the good of my family, it is the sustenance to get ahead and remedy the needs of my family. What I would like to share with you is the security that my farm, my coffee plantation, is also accompanied and fed by fruit trees such as avocado, chinene, guava, lemon, banana and many other things, this produces and generates good soil which is the main base of our plants, our product comes healthy, it is clean, it is safe to enjoy. And at the same time we help ourselves, for example, with the avocado and when there are oranges, we don’t run out of them too, but thanks to that I feel good. Little or much, as long as we are here, it is a gain. When I get older, what am I going to do? Coffee is the main base, the sustenance and my future for tomorrow.
