“God first before all things”

My name is Luz Maria Reina Colorado Hernández, I live in Rincón Toningo. I dedicate myself to doing housework, but during harvest time we work with coffee. I was born in 1988, I have a 17 year old son, his name is Uriel, and my husband, Pablo Rincón, he is 37 years old. I have two cats, Esponja and Spoty and a dog named Pantera. Before I didn’t like working with coffee, but now that we are processing it I started to like it, in the past we only sold it in cherry.

I started working with my brother and that is where I learned about the picking during the harvest. I started to work with the other process (honey) when I learned it in the course you gave us, that is when I started to like working with coffee and I became interested in it. I started working with my brother 5 years ago and 2 years ago I started working with specialty coffee on my own. We produced three quintals the first year, two were for an auction in which I participated and the other was for personal consumption, I like to drink my own coffee and not buy it somewhere else.

This year we want to produce more coffee, it is difficult, but not impossible. When one begins to be more interested, one becomes more excited with the processes. Before it was just picking and selling, picking and selling, but some time ago we learned new ways and our perspective changed, and we began to work with parchment coffee. It is very nice and I have learned many things in this new stage and with the new processes. Personally I like working with the new process better, because it seems to me that with the washed process we work harder and it is more tiring and I feel it is even more complicated. Working with specialty coffee is hard but the income is higher than with the conventional coffee, so we feel more motivated and that our work is valued.
